Reductions in Staff in Placentia Yorba Linda School District

Yesterday the PYLUSD announced the planned layoffs of employees in the school district. It looks as if though no “teachers” will loose their job but still there are going to be layoffs.

One thing that does concern me is the reduction in computer classes. I don’t know what grade level these classes are in but if they are in anything above 6th grade then they shouldn’t be cut. Using a computer is a MUST HAVE skill.

From Placentia Yorba Linda California School Employees Association

One of the hardest hit areas will be the Library and Computer instructor staffs.

PYLUSD Officials say No “TEACHERS” will be layed off

The devil is in the details regarding the announcement on March 5th 2008 from PYLUSD officials.

The key here is that if you are a “teacher” who does not have tenure then you are not really a teacher and can be laied off because you are basically a temporary employee. I might not be using the “correct” terminology but that is the basics of it.

I have it on good authority that some “teachers” who don’t have tenure will probably not have jobs next school year because of the possible budget cuts. If the budget cuts do not happen they are probably safe, but if the budget cuts do happen they will probably be out of a job. That SUCKS!

Why are we in this predicament? Because our elected officials in state government are a bunch of buffoons. The Governator is already talking about tax increase by cutting tax breaks for families and homeowners.

Our economy is already teetering on disaster and now we want to raise taxes? Instead of raising taxes lets end all the BS PORK that the state spends money on and put it directly into our children’s education.
