Yorba Linda Continues To Rock & Roll

A minor earthquake, magnitued 3.0 occurred at 9:37 PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in Yorba Linda. Just another reminder to get your emergency kits together.

Here are a few safety tips from the American Red Cross site:

Choose a safe place in every room–under a sturdy table or desk or against an inside wall where nothing can fall on you.

Practice DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON at least twice a year. Drop under a sturdy desk or table, hold on, and protect your eyes by pressing your face against your arm. If there’s no table or desk nearby, sit on the floor against an interior wall away from windows, bookcases, or tall furniture that could fall on you. Teach children to DROP, COVER, AND HOLD ON!

Choose an out-of-town family contact.

Consult a professional to find out additional ways you can protect your home, such as bolting the house to its foundation and other structural mitigation techniques.

Take a first aid class from your local Red Cross chapter. Keep your training current.

Get training in how to use a fire extinguisher from your local fire department.

Inform babysitters and caregivers of your plan.

Earthquake activity in Yorba Linda - 7/29/08

Of course everyone felt the 5.4 today but did you know that the USGS has reported as of 10:00pm Pacific time over 75 quakes around Yorba Linda, Diamond Bar and Chino.

On July 13th 2008 the Science Dude for the OC Register reported a “Rare Lull” in So Cal earth quakes

5.4 Chino Hills Quake 7/29/08 - Right Behind Yorba Linda

Wow, what a doosy of a quake. Ya it was only a 5.4 but being so close to epicenter we had a bunch of stuff fall off our shelves. Everyone is ok and I hope everyone else is. Our 5 year old paniced but he is ok now.

Yorba Linda Relay for Life

Support the Amercian Cancer Society by participating in the Relay for Life in Yorba Linda.

The event will be held on August 8th 2008 at the Yorba Linda Middle School. Yorba Linda Middle is located on Casa Loma Ave, Yorba Linda, CA 92886. The event begins at 3:00pm.

There will be a raffle held. One of the items up for raffle is a quilt made by Vivian at Quilts With Love.

Yorba Linda High School Needs Your Help

Yorba Linda Residents in the 2008 Olympics

Jeff Holguin and Heather Bown both residents of Yorba Linda will be competing in the 2008 Olympics.

Jeff Holguin is part of the Shotgun National Team and will be competing in the Double Trap event. The double trap is when 2 clay pigeons are launched and the shooter has to hit both targets before they drop out of range. Here is an article about Jeff in the OC Register. Heather Bown is a member of the US Womens National Volleyball Team. Heather plays the position Middle Blocker. Heather’s profile page for the Olypics is here -> Heather Bown.

Did you know that Orange County athletes will contend for medals in at least 13 sports in China. Also, at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Orange County athletes won as many gold medals as Great Britain - nine. One more than Brazil and Spain combined.
