The Richard Nixon Library is holding a two day event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace.

Admission to both events is free and open to the public.

EVENT: DOMESTIC POLICY INITIATIVES OF THE NIXON YEARS: BRINGING INNOVATION AND PROGRESS TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

WHEN: Friday, January 8, 2010, 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

Four top officials from President Nixon’s Domestic Council will discuss Nixon’s innovations on government re-organization, energy conservation, health care reform and environmental care policies.

EVENT: PRESIDENT NIXON’S 97th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

WHEN: Saturday, January 9, 2010, 1:00 p.m. wreath laying, 1:30 p.m. lecture.

1:00 p.m. Formal wreath laying ceremony of the White House Wreath from President Barack Obama by Tricia Nixon Cox, President Nixon’s daughter, joined by Navy Commander Everett Alvarez, Jr., the longest serving POW in Vietnam.

1:30 p.m. Nixon Legacy Lecture with remarks by the President’s son-in-law Edward F. Cox, newly elected chair of the New York Republican Party, introduced by his son, Christopher Cox. After the lecture, Ed Cox will present the Foundation’s Great American Hero Award to Commander Alvarez.

Wow! 20 years…I remember when it opened!!! It was a big deal at my junior high (Travis Ranch). Time flies!!

Unfortunately for Nixon, what he will be remembered for in the years to come was the nightmare he put the country through in his 2nd term, and for his resignation in the face of an almost certain impeachment. The 37th POTUS was the Watergate president.
