It is UNACCEPTABLE for residents to be refused access to their homes in times of distress. WORSE, I was refused access even when i told the officer that my daughter was home and I needed to go get her. He actually told me that I needed to tell her to walk, which was unacceptable in the fire situation. The story is long and ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS and I have lost a lot of respect for the authority and their lack of concern for the safety of minors and citizens period, and their lack of knowledge when deployed to an area to direct traffic.
I was given false information on the state of access to my home and treated as criminal for trying to ask permission to get to my daughter. I will not tolerate this attitude again, as this is the second event where I have been denied access to my home. Being given false information that there were no alternative routes open to my home above Bryant Ranch led me, as it would any other parent to panic in that there was NO WAY i was leaving my daughter behind to watch her father on the slope fighting the flames with the garden hose. I truly hope this is passed along to the proper authorities and compassion is taught to those in uniform and the reminder that their job is to offer solutions and alternatives to situations. Firefighters are taught grace under pressure and the same should be expected from the men in uniform deployed to “HELP”. Unfortunately at this time I feel that the police department actually made the situation worse, by angering residents who wanted to get to their homes to either pack up or help. Then on Sunday when they opened up the evacuation and let residents back in, the police disappeared and everyone was allowed in; not just the residents. This made no sense what so ever and the area crawling with people who didn’t need to be there. Therefore, the residents and victims of this tragedy were treated equally with anyone from anywhere. UNACCEPTABLE and not to be TOLERATED ever again…And, I don’t think there is a parent anywhere who would drive away and leave their child up on the burning hill.

Absolutely!!! I totally agree! My parents were up at their house and my sister went to help them get all their animals and things and the cops wouldn’t let her up. I cannot believe that they would not let you up to your home to get your daughter! A child for crying out loud being left to fend for herself, RIDICULOUS and SOOO…UNACCEPTABLE!!!
People in Hidden Hills trying to get to their homes to save animals, memories, etc were told, “Sorry, no one is allowed up!” It’s unbelievable that you would not be allowed into your own home to get the things that matter to you if there is still a home to come back to.
Agree here too. They wouldn’t let my husband in to get our cat (that we couldn’t find when we ran) and yet they let EVERYONE in on Sunday afternoon and then LEAVE? What was the point??
I heard (in my area) that maybe it wasn’t a looting problem but a gas line/leak problem but if it was that, why wasn’t everyone told to get out? If you were in there, you could stay. But if you were out, you couldn’t go back in.
I agree with you. I was evacuated and told several different stories by the police as to why I couldn’t go back in on Sun. I heard the gas leak explanation too. But most of my neighbors never even left! Even when they were told it was mandatory. They knew they didn’t have to leave and if they did they might not be allowed back.
