City Council to Vote on Arizona Law

Yorba Linda City Council vote this Tuesday June 1st 2010 to pass a resolution supporting the controversial Arizona law.

From the OC Register:

….Mayor John Anderson is asking the City Council to take up the issue.

….Council members Nancy Rikel and Mark Schwing said they would likely vote in favor of a resolution

….Councilwoman Jan Horton said she’s not sure how she would vote

Looks like this Tuesday’s council meeting could get interesting. I wonder if we are going to get any protesters. I am going to attend the meeting. I’ve also got a new application for this website that will let me LIVE BLOG the event. Stay tuned to watch if anything interesting happens.

  1. Um, why do we need to waste time voting on this? What is the *&@*^! does this have to do with YORBA LINDA?

    Ridiculous waste of TIME.

What is next? Um, my husband and I are fighting over the kind of new carpet to buy. Perhaps the council would like to take a vote on that as well?

    RI-DIC-U-LOUS.

  2. Mr. Fischle says:

I agree with The GLA, but I rather have not spice up the post with innuendos. Mr. Anderson, why waste the Council’s valuable time on something that does not directly affect the good citizens of Y.L.? This is Arizona’s deal, not YL, or LA or Costa Mesa’s. Last time I looked, the calendar is jammed packed of items that are pushed to next week ad nauseum. I don’t think the majority of folks want illegal immigrants here in the US and if the AZ law is properly followed, all of the name calling and hype will go away. So there, we are done with item #1 on the agenda, now to item #2 on the agenda…

  3. Mike says:

Yorba Linda- Land of racist living.

This bill has nothing to do with Yorba Linda

  4. Edgar says:

Wow what a waste of money and time, I agree with Mike this bill has nothing to do with Y.L.
The City council should be investing their time planning a contingency plan for the fire season, instead of voting on whether they support AZ or not.
Mike you said it right Land of racist Living

I commend the Yorba Linda City Council’s decision on taking the time to discuss as well as pass a resolution supporting the controversial Arizona law. This allows law enforcement officials in Arizona to demand a person’s proof of citizenship if there is reason to believe that they are in the United States illegally. We are not talking about immigration; we are talking about illegal immigration. It is important to realize that this law has nothing to do with race, but has everything to do with your own finances, taxes, resources, housing, unemployment, city plans, etc. None of us can ignore the present or the future impact that illegal immigration is having and will continue to have on our state and city. This issue is controversial for a reason and all levels of government must address it; if not now, then they will be forced to address it in the future. The states along the border are mostly impacted and California is one of them. Arizona is tremendously effected by illegal immigration and their governor did something about it…she decided to simply enforce an existing national law that states that one must come to America legally.

  6. Harry says:

I agree with the Arizona stand on illegal imagration. This has alway been a federal law and our current goverment has choose to ignor
this law. My parents and ex-wife has followed the current laws and have immigrated legally. Why does it take to follow and enforce the
law. Every time that we the people of this great nation past a law to
enforce illegal immagration. We are called racist or the law is un=
constitution ofr the illegals. Am I missing something or is the
constitution that our fore fathers fought for and many of our
soldiers currently our giving up their lives for. Our they doing
for the people of sthe U.S or for the illegals to have a better life
    at our expense?
What is our President and Congressment doing in in the White
House? It sssms like the want to support all the illegals and not
give a damn about the citizens (We The People)
I think it’s about time that all of us support the States and Cities
willing to support the laws that made this country Great!
I hope you Americans can read this and give your support.

In regards to the Arizona law that the Yorba Linda city council recently voted to support: “One has not only a legal, but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, (emphasis mine) ONE HAS THE MORAL RESPONSIBILITY TO DISOBEY UNJUST LAWS .” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Human decency is the least attribute that is expected from us, and loving your neighbor (please use your intelligence and realize that God means everyone) as yourself is the highest calling of a Christian for others.

“How does one determine whether a law is just or unjust? A just law is a man-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. To put it in terms of St. Thomas Aquinas: An unjust law is a human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law. Any law that uplifts the human personality is just. Any law that degrades human personality is unjust. All segregation statutes are unjust because segregation distorts the soul and damages the personality. It gives the segregator a FALSE SENSE (emphasis is mine) of superiority and the segregated a false sense of inferiority.”
      Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Obviously any person who does not look white will be the one who is profiled by the Arizona police for questioning on his/her legal status, and only someone who has no ability to critically think would disagree that this is an ugly form of legalized segregating of who to question and not to question about his/her legal status.

“There is little hope for us until we become toughminded enough to break loose from the shackles of prejudice, half-truths, and downright ignorance.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

      • Loren Nason says:

Yes, One DOES have the responsibility to disobey unjust laws.
        Such as:
Separating Blacks from Whites at a drinking fountain
        or
        Blacks only schools
        or
Blacks can only use the back of the bus.

But an Immigrant from ANY country that comes here illegally does NOT have the right to come here and work where they want, use our countries services, buy a house, drive a car, vote, or anything else that is granted to an American Citizen. It is against the law, Federal Law. And now the State of Arizona whom is tired of the federal government refusing to fix the problem they will now check for immigration status AFTER someone has been stopped for some OTHER crime first.

This is NOT racially motivated it just happens that the majority of the illegal-immigrant population of Arizona comes from South American Countries.

If a Norwegian is here illegally they will also be asked for their immigration paperwork if they happened to be stopped for another other crime.

For those who say this will cause racial profiling I say BS. If racial profiling was the issue Arizona Law Enforcement would already be targeting people of South American descent and stopping someone for no reason just to be able to deport them.

This new Senate Bill does not create any new laws but only forces the enforcement of existing laws.

If you came to this Country legally, Move into my neighborhood, be my neighbor, have dinner with me, be my friend.

But if you came here illegally, go home, get in line, apply for immigration, get your legal immigration status and then move here.

        Though shall not steal.
When you come to this country illegally you are stealing someone else’s spot who is trying to emigrate to this country legally.

  7. ken says:

If the concern s the law instead of the race then a solution would be to change the law so that folks who have been here for a long time as contributing members of our society are legal.

    Problem solved.

For those with a racist agenda this solution is unacceptable because it not only solves the problem and takes their issue away but worse yet it acknowledges that brown skin people are humans just like everyone else.
