After the horrible devastation from the fires last month I knew sooner or
later somebody would sue the city. I can’t say that I blame them for bringing the lawsuit, but is the city to blame? I would guess that almost everyone would say that at least some blame lays squarely on the Yorba Linda Water District.
A Yorba Linda couple have filed a lawsuit agains the city and the Yorba Linda Water District for $1.8 million.
The fire destroyed the couple’s home and personal property because firefighters were unable to save the home without water in the area, according to the claim. The claim also contends the city is liable for the loss of the home because the city ordered residents to stop watering easements near their homes, which had previously been kept watered. Source OCR
Now to add insult to injury, the City has said to Yorba Linda home owners: “You’re on your own if the hills slide”
“Homeowners who live near the canyons and hillsides need to remain vigilant,” said Stowell after rains threatened to melt away hillsides, burnt by fire. “Typically we won’t step in on private property.” Source OCR
