Starting a Business in Yorba Linda

by Loren Nason on May 15, 2008

Overheard today…

Opening a business in Yorba Linda was the most frustrating endeavor I have done in my life. Even my contractor said it was the worst case of bureaucracy he has dealt with.

I have actually heard this a few times. Would anyone like to chime in?

Just curious what specifically they found to be so frustrating? If opening a business in town is so difficult why are there so many thriving businesses of every type and size here in Yorba Linda? I have a sneaking suspicion that much of this person’s frustration has to do with their being told there are rules and zoning/land use/building codes they have to comply with and they just didn’t want to.

The business owner in I spoke with said it was the mostly the laissez-faire attitude of the Planning Department.

Once items required by the city were completed more requirements appeared. All for a business that was just leasing space and was constructing non-load bearing walls.

Thanks for stopping by Mr. Fields

I found Yorba Linda to be good to work with when opening a business. The inspectors were responsive and fine to work with during the process. Like any other city, there are politics at work behind the scenes that do influence certain rules, codes, inspections, zoning.

All in all, Yorba Linda is not a sleepy, little city anymore. It is thriving city with great opportunity. “Gracious living” is a very descriptive observation of the area.
