After a few events that have happened recently I started thinking about the “The Golden Rule”.
Over the summer my oldest child fell riding his bike and ended up needing stitches. He waited at a busy local drug store for me to pick him up and not one person stopped to ask him if he was ok or needed help. Even with blood covering his arms and face no one even acknowledge him. So he sat alone and scared and until I got there.
Yesterday on a local horse trail I walked up to a boy who was crying because he fell and hurt his knee. A few feet from this poor little kid were construction workers that just sat there watching this kid cry. So I cleaned him up with my water bottle and tissues then tried to make sure he was OK, he was.
I just want to remind people that it only takes a moment to help someone in need. Even if it’s only asking if they need help or offering to call a relative from your cell phone, just showing your concern is all that matters. No child or adult should feel alone and scared during an emergency.
Remember “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Someday it may be you or your loved one sitting on the side of the road, wouldn’t it ease your mind knowing that even a stranger cares enough to at least help?
It is also never too late to learn First Aid. The American Red Cross is a great place to start.
