Why I Love Yorba Linda:

by Sabrina Solesbee on December 16, 2009

I was born & raised in Yorba Linda and have raised my own family here for many years. I attended Elementary school at Mabel Paine & Linda Vista Elementary, Junior High at Y.L.J.H. (they don’t call it that anymore) and I remember the days of being bused all the way to Troy High school, 7 miles away and passing 2 other high schools to get there! I transferred to Esperanza my sophomore year (much closer!!).

I remember going “blue chip bowling” every Friday night at the Yorba Linda Bowling alley (won $500 one night!!!). Fields as far as the eye can see and as far as your legs could take you… Back then, Yorba Linda had a plethora of horses, rabbits, chickens, snakes & coyotes.

It was the best place to grow up!

My parents raised all 7 of us (4 boys & 3 girls) on Second St. in a little house that was built in 1913. That house was so small my mom made the old shed outside into 2 bedrooms for my brothers. From there, mom & dad started building the “Shop” (as we all refer to it) right next door to the house. Solesbee Auto Craft’s was the name given to the business that quickly became an icon in Yorba Linda. (Do you have your “Solesbee Shirt”?) Dad would walk to work just across the driveway everyday (mom would too). Our mom was always right there next to dad working on whatever project was going on…. Sanding, painting, getting her fingers dirty too! (My mom is soooo cool!) In fact nothing has changed in nearly 40 years! Family owned and operated Mom and my four brother’s are still right there with dad working away. That strong work ethic and keen sense of community have always been important to me – lessons I am delighted to share with my children.

Over the years, my little town grew into a beautiful city. It is no wonder why families flock here to raise their children. Rolling hills, beautiful homes, award winning schools, and safe neighborhoods. Yorba Linda truly is the “Land of Gracious Living”!
