Or By Email:

Yorba Linda City Council – Mark Abramowitz Responds

by Loren Nason on October 29, 2008

I sent an email to Mark Abramowitz asking why residents should vote for him, here is his response.

Others can often say it best. Here are excerpts of a an open letter to
Yorba Linda residents from 8 term Councilman Henry W. “Hank” Wedaa,
published on October 9, 2008 in the Yorba Linda Star.

” As usually happens at this time each election year, I am being asked
which candidates I am supporting and for whom I am voting. Usually I
simply provide a brief answer and move on. However, this year it’s
different in that I take the time to explain in more detail the various
reasons for my choice. This represents my view of the role that could be
played by the 5th councilman…”

“WHO IS THE BEST PERSON TO FILL THE VACANT SEAT ON THE CITY COUNCIL, i.e.
THE FIFTH COUNCILMAN?”

I have examined all of the candidates qualifications and … I found only
one [nonincumbent] that meets those rigorous qualifications. And that
person is Mark Abramowitz.”

“Here’s just a few of the reasons why I believe Mark is the best candidate
for the open City Council seat:

* As an independent consultant, Mark’s work is solving problems for
others. Through his private company, he helps clients work with the
regulatory system, and solves problems that involve government agencies.
I’ve known and worked with Mark for over 20 years. He does an outstanding
and effective job. His 25+ years of experience of doing this will give the
city a leg up in dealing with a variety of government agencies for the
benefit of Yorba Linda residents.

* Your councilman will set policy and pass ordinances and regulations.
Mark has been involved in policy and regulatory development, developing
and modifying local, state and federal regulations and laws. Elect someone
who has the education and experience to properly integrate policy
initiatives without creating more problems.

* Mark has several decades of leadership experience in serving on
government agency boards, including the Yorba Linda Water District Board
and the Planning Commission, In addition, he chaired and increased the
efficiency of our regional air quality district Hearing Board, and has
served on other regional, state and national government agency committees.

* Mark knows how to resolve differences for the benefit of the City
and its residents. For example, the San Antonio Home Owners
Association/King Family Trust dispute in the Casino Ridge area was likely
to lead to expensive litigation. Even worse, the City was likely to be
dragged into that litigation, at tremendous cost to the City and its
residents. Mark stepped in, and at the request of the participants,
successfully mediated the dispute. Both sides appeared at the Planning
Commission in support of each other. They also publicly thanked Mark for
his assistance, and their leaders have joined me in endorsing Mark for
election to the City Council.

* On any issue, whether Mark and I agree or disagree, Mark does not
pretend to be something that he’s not. Prior to serving on the Planning
Commission and being elected to the Yorba Linda Water District Board, Mark
appeared before the City Council many times. He has a consistent record,
unlike some of the other candidates. Mark’s positions on treating people
fairly, low density, the arts, protecting neighborhoods, supporting the
equestrian community and Town Center have been consistent and well known.

It’s interesting to me that some of Mark’s opponents have been asking him
for years to run for City Council. For good reason. They consistently ask
Mark to share his skill and expertise with them.

You may like some of these other candidates personally, but Mark is
hands-down more experienced and effective.

I cannot find any other [nonincumbent] candidate .. that comes anywhere.
close to matching Mark’s record and experience. Ask the other Council
candidates, particularly the ones that you agree with, about their
expertise, experience and record. I know that you’ll reach the same
conclusion that I did: that electing Mark Abramowitz to the vacant
Council seat should be every resident’s priority.

Let’s get Yorba Linda back on track again”…”
