Yorba Linda City Council – Michael Marien Responds

I sent an email to Micheal asking why residents should vote for him. Here is his response.

Loren, I believe you should vote for me if you agree with my core beliefs.

I am running for because I am not happy with the direction the previous City Councils. The redevelopement of the downtown area is going to have a long term effect on all Yorba Lindans. Downtown is a mess. Home owners and businesses, who have been there for years, are to be replaced with new businesses and high density housing.

Most plans call for good things to be included in the downtown – but not at the expense to people who have lived and worked here for years. I want to work around the existing (surviving) units. I would like all current contractors should excluded from any additional participation in the redevelopement. No contractor should control the project or expect keep a contract with cost overruns.

I would like to keep housing under 5 units per acre.

Traffic and crosswalks. Try walking, biking, horse riding is dangerous at any crossing. Yes the crosswalks are marked but cars do not stop. I want to add photo enforcement, speed humps or special traffic lights to major crossing through out Yorba Linda.

I would like to establish a Yorba Linda Police Department. Brea Police have done a great job patroling our streets but a city our size should have its own police force. We would still use Brea to support us while we switch. I expect some of the Brea officers will come for the opportunity.

The fire stations and paramedics are being over worked, especially on the west side, due to elderly population. There is newer equipment available to fire fighters that we should make sure they get (lighter packs, newer air systems).

People first.
