Yorba Linda City Council – Nancy Rikel Responds

by Loren Nason on October 29, 2008

I sent an email to Nancy Rikel about why residents should vote for her. Here is her response.

I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you.

As a 32 year resident who has been involved in Yorba Linda politics for over 17 years, I am running as a reform candidate and an advocate for the people.  I have been a business executive in the transportation industry for 28 years and hold a bachelors degree from Arizona State University.

I support low density development which means lower crime, traffic and congestion. I support the highest level of security and safety and a police force that works with residents to decrease and maintain low levels of crime at a reasonable cost.

I support completing our downtown that is consistent with the nature and character of our city, following the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Committee.

I worked alongside many residents for the success of Measure B and was instrumental in stopping eminent domain abuse in our downtown.  I support a Yes on BB which would prohibit the use of Eminent Domain for private gain anywhere in our city.

I am a fiscal conservation and believe that we need to rein in our city manager pay and work to reduce costs for landscape, lighting and water.

I favor an equestrian and cultural arts center through a government-private partnership.

I will not take contributions from out of town special interest groups or city contractors, so that I can represent the residents of Yorba Linda with a clear and open mind.

I believe in open, ethical and transparent government and have co-authored the Contract With Yorba Linda pledging where I stand on the key issues.  You can read it at Contract4yl.com or Rikel4yl.com.  I am running with two other candidates: Ed Rakochy and Mark Schwing.

If elected, I will be available as your public servant 24/7.  I believe that I am the best candidate for the job, along with my two running mates.
