Yorba Linda Crime Report

I know we live in the Land of Gracious Living, but that doesn’t mean you should leave your doors unlocked to your car or garage.

Suspect:
Hilton, Dustin James
26 years of age
Resident of Riverside
Charges: PC 459 (burglary) and PC 487 (grand theft)
On September 21, 2009 at about 5:37 am, a resident in the 26000 block of Abbey Glen Dr., Yorba Linda, saw a subject attempting to break into a vehicle. The resident saw the suspect inside of the vehicle and chased the subject away. The subject was described as a male, white, 20’s, 5’8” to 5’10” tall, thin build, wearing a black sweatshirt with a white hood and dark pants. Police checked the area for the suspect, however, were unable to locate him. There was no loss at that time.
At about 6:52 am, a resident in the 5300 block of Camino De Bryant, Yorba Linda, reported the theft of a bicycle from an open garage. They described the bicycle as a Trek brand 10 speed, black and white in color, with a value of $2000.00. Also taken were a grey and white bicycle helmet and grey and white gloves.
An officer responding to this report saw a subject riding a similar bicycle and wearing a similar helmet and gloves. The officer stopped this subject on the bicycle trail, south of La Palma Ave. and east Via Lomas De Yorba West. The officer also noticed the subject was wearing a black sweatshirt with a white hood. Officers arrested the subject for the theft of the bicycle and were also able to link him to the attempted theft from earlier in the morning. Officers also located his vehicle parked in the area and found evidence of other thefts from vehicles. Detectives are in the process of identifying potential stolen property and trying to locate witnesses and victims. There is a potential that there may be up to five similar thefts that he may be linked to. The stolen property includes backpacks, paperwork, mail, and clothing.
Hilton was booked at Brea Police Department and later taken to Orange County Jail. He is being held on $100,000.00 bail.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Brea Police Detective John Hoetker at (714) 990-7618.

From my understanding Yorba Linda has a relatively low crime rate. Yorba Linda did have 5 homicides last year (very sad story) and we had 1 this year. Both incidents were Murder/Suicide that can happen anywhere no matter how safe a city is.
